M.I.9 War Establishment. Memorandum by Director of Military Intelligence

(a) The information hitherto produced from enemy P/W has been classified by the three Fighting Services and outside Departments as being of vital importance, and this has been agreed by the Chiefs of Staff Committee. The provision and coordination of the means of obtaining this information is my responsibility through M.I.9. (b) Viewed as a purely business proposition, the organisation dealing with British P/W has so far paid high dividends. The value in cash and manpower of some 1,600 escapers of all ranks and Services that have returned to the U.K.
