Operation "Whipcord" - Probable Axis Reaction. Report by Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee

1 Oct 1941

Indeed positive action against Turkey may already have been taken as a result of operation "Crusader". Alternatively with our considerable forces tied up directly or indirectly in "Whipcord" island, our power to help Turkey would be much reduced and Germany might hope therefore to ensure the submission of Turkey or to compel us to divert to that country sufficient forces to encourage the Turks to resist.
