Proposed Restrictions on the Movement of Foreign Service Attaches. Memorandum by the Director of Military Intelligence

1 Aug 1941

4. The War Office was invited by the Committee to take up with the Commissioner of Metropolitan Police certain proposals regarding the marking of Service Attaches' cars. This has been done, but after consultation with the Commissioner, it has been agreed that no useful purpose would be served by marking the cars as suggested, and that, in fact, freer circulation might be possible to cars so marked. It is therefore recommended that this proposal should not be pursued further. 5. It is understood that the Security Service is proposing to co-ordinate the measures to be taken as regards the movements of all Service Attaches, so as to ensure that the security interests of each Service Department are safeguarded.
