Trans Caucasian Front. Note by the Secretary

1 Aug 1941

THE COMMITTEE:(a) instructed the Joint Planning Staff, in consultation with the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee and as a matter of urgency, (i) to examine whether it would be feasible to move British land and air forces to TransCaucasia in order to stiffen Russian resistance. (ii) to report briefly on the extent to which the Russian Caucasian and Trans-Caucasian armies are self-supporting or could be supported from Trans-Caspian Russian resources. (iii) to examine the possibility of ultimately withdrawing Russian forces from Trans-Caucasia with a view to their continuing the struggle alongside our own Middle East and Western Asiatic armies.
