Italian Morale. Report by the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee

1 Aug 1941

AIR. 5. The morale of the Italian Air Force shows steady signs of deterioration and its efficiency is thereby being affected. Personnel of air squadrons rely on the ability and enterprise of their leaders in battle and lack confidence once those leaders become casualties. Administrative muddle and a low standard of serviceability of aircraft have caused discontent among flying personnel. Lack of aircraft has caused large numbers of qualified pilots in metropolitan Italy to become demoralised through want of flying training.
