A German Attack on Turkey. Report by the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee

1 Jun 1941

3. Operations against Syria and Iraq. An attack might be made on Turkey with a view to operations against Syria and Iraq. This could not be undertaken unless there had been a Russian collapse, or the Germans had been able to break off offensive operations and disengage the necessary forces. 4. A drive on Egypt from the North. A drive through Palestine to Egypt might be attempted either in conjunction with an offensive in the Western Desert, or because such an offensive in strength was not feasible.
