(c) On 19th May, 1941, J.I.C.(41)216., stated that despite indications of Vichy French action against Free French territory in North and West Africa, action was unlikely till October. (d) As soon as the German attack on the Soviet was under was, three papers were written (J.I.C.(41)265, 268, and 282), to estimate the possible resultant scales and timings of enemy attacks against our positions in the Middle East through the Caucasus, through Turkey, or into Egypt. These estimates go as far ahead as April, 1942.
