Bombing of Forests and Agricultural Areas in Germany and German Occupied Territory. Note by Secy.

1 Jun 1941

APPENDIX A. DEPARTMENTAL No.2. (CYPHER) FROM TOKYO TO FOREIGN OFFICE. Sir R. Craigie D. 12.40 p.m. 4th July, 1941. No.1109 R. 7.20 pm. 9th July, 1941. 4th July, 1941. A Polish official and landowner suggested the importance of bombing German forests in the near future. States that as (2 grps. undec.) Germany is forest land, economic value immense. Concealed factories and dumps numerous. Partially burnt forest results in spread of disease among trees. Such areas are lightly defended and compared with industrial areas entail less loss of life for greater damage.
