Vichy France against Chad: Certain Military Preparations By. Report by J.I.C.

1 Jun 1941

Only 2,000 tons of low-grade motor spirit were to be discharged from the "Sheherezade" at Dakar. But it is important to consider the oil supply position in French North and West Africa as a whole. We are not preventing the movement of oil from the Mediterranean to French West Africa, or vice versa, and there appears to be an increasing movement of fuel, including aviation spirit, by desert routes from the North. If this sea and land traffic continues, there is no reason why the requisite stock of fuel should not have been built up between Dakar and Zinder by mid-October.
