Middle East - Comments on Appreciation by Commanders-in-Chief. Report by J.I.C.

1 Apr 1941

Our present opinion is that the daily maintenance figure generally accepted for German and Italian divisions is much exaggerated. If all the ports of Cyrenaica alone are brought in use, some 1,000 tons a day can be landed, which should be sufficient for at least four divisions. There are undoubtedly great difficulties of water and petrol supplies but. particularly after the experience of Cyrenaica, We must assume that the German will move with the very minimum of impedimenta and he may well hope to continue his advance during May.
