Crete: Scale of Attack on Report by the J.I.C.

APPENDIX 'A' ESTIMATED SCALE OF AIR ATTACK. 1. Air Bombardment. There are estimated to be 285 Long Range Bombers in the Balkan area and 50 Long Range Bombers in Rhodes, all of which could operate against Crete at short notice. There are 60 Twin-engined Fighters available which could provide Fighter escort from Greece without extra tanks, though at approaching extreme range. The 240 Dive Bombers (Ju. 87's) and 270 Singleengined Fighters could only operate against Crete from North of the Corinth Canal if fitted with extra tanks.
