Nevertheless their main object must remain the elimination of this country; their strategy must therefore be aimed at making it either ripe for invasion or willing to treat for peace. These two aims are complementary: both require a weakening of this country's HOME front, deterioration in its economic power and the sapping of its fighting strength. 5. In addition, Germany's strategy must aim at making herself invulnerable and at maintaining her army's claim to be invincible.
