Operations 'Shrapnel' and 'Brisk'. Possibility of Fifth Column Operation. Report by J.I.C.

1 Jan 1941

(iv) Possible methods of infiltration into the islands. Cover for a limited number of men might be provided by the British Companies operating in the Islands, such as:St.Vincent Coal Co. (Managers: Hull, Blythe & Co.) Millers & Co. Wilson & Sons. Cory & Co. Cables & Wireless. Shell Oil (Portugal) Ltd. Ferro & Co., a Portuguese concern under British control. It would be difficult to introduce more than a few British nationals under such auspices without attracting undue attention. A small number might visit the island ostensibly for the purpose of studying the possibilities of establishing a British air line calling at the islands.
