A volume of reports, memoranda, and correspondence from the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain’s intelligence organisations accordingly. The JIC members discussed a vast range of international and domestic issues in their meetings. In this file, subjects documented include anti-Nazi resistance movements in occupied Europe; assessments of enemy strength and intentions; analysis of potential German airborne attacks on Britain; analysis of enemy propaganda; discussions of British propaganda and the creation of rumours to be spread to undermine German morale, including rumours of British secret weapons such as death rays; German and British military use of drugs; potential Japanese attacks on Malaya and Indochina; relations with the Vichy French regime; and speculation about possible German attacks on the Middle East and Balkans.
