Italy. Policy in Relation To: Note by Secy. Covering Note Summarising Main Points which Emerged at Discussion Between Strategical Planning Section and Representatives of the Propaganda Departments

1 Jul 1940

ANNEX A. POLICY IN RELATION TO ITALY. The main points which emerged in the discussion between the Strategical Planning Section and the representatives of the Propaganda Departments were as follows:(a) It was probably a mistake to take the line, openly, that it was our first aim to knock Italy out of the war. If we were to be so frank on the subject, and if things were not to go well for us, our propaganda would be embarrassed rather than assisted. (b) A detailed examination of policy vis-a-vis Italy was in hand.
