Eire. Probable Scale of Attack On: Note by Secy. Circulating Annex to C.O.S.(40)492

ANNEX 'A'. In C.O.S.(40)479 dated 20th June, 1940, the Chiefs of Staff estimated the probable scale of attack as follows:"A German invasion may take place either:(a) as a diversion; or (b) to occupy Ireland and establish air and submarine bases for attack on shipping in the western approaches and/or on our West Coast ports and industries. Invasion may be either seaborne or airborne, or both. If the intention is to occupy Ireland to establish bases, likely objectives will be:Airborne landings at Dublin.
