"Inspired Rumours". Note by Secy. Circulating Weekly Report of Department E.H. for Week-Ending 27.7.40

1 Jul 1940

Serial No. Rumour. Action Proposed. Action Taken. 14) Towed Bomb-filled Torpedo Gliders. Towed, bomb-filled gliders, or more accurately, torpedo gliders, are now in production. They are a development of the Russian and German experiments with troop carrying gliders, but advanced to a point where no pilot is necessary for the gliders. They are fitted with stabilisers but on release take up a vertical dive. They are designed to be flown by night and to be towed by heavy bombers whose disposable bomb load is thereby considerably increased.
