Porthcurno. Cable Landing Station At: Possibility of Attack: Note by Secy. Covering Memo. By War Office

1 May 1940

ANNEX. CABLE LANDING STATION AT PORTHCURNO. POSSIBILITY OF ATTACK. All the trans-Atlantic and other long distance cables from this country land at Porthcurno (almost 8 miles south-west of Penzance). In the past, the cable landing place has relied on its location for its protection, though an anti-sabotage guard is provided. The situation has now changed, and this place might well become the object of an attack. It is understood that the most effective method of destroying these cables would be to cut them in one or more places out at sea.
