1 May 1940

ANNEX B. Copy of a letter from the Director of Military Intelligence to Mr. Cavendish Bentinck. 1. I have discussed the points raised in your letter of 11th June, on the subjects of the recent railway "strike" in France, and the transmission of "phoney" messages over the telephone, with the Security Board. 2. I concur with you absolutely that a general warning should be issued that the greatest care be exercised at all times, and particularly during an emergency, as regards instructions or information received over the telephone.
