APPENDIX From:G.O.C. Malaya. Desp. 1429 29.5.40. Recd. 1520 29.5.40. To:War Office. 10682 cipher 29/5. Your 69965 (M.I.2) 4/5. G.S.O. 2(1) visited Bandoeng 16th/19th May. Following information regarding Japan received from chief of Staff N.E.I. 1. Does not at present expect attack on N.E.I. by Japan. Danger lies in Japanese Navy taking matter into own hands particularly in event of serious reverse to Allies in Europe. He considers (repeat considers) Government and Army not desirous of extending war commitments.
