United Kingdom: German Invasion Of: Amendment to Paper No.J.I.C.(40)83

1 May 1940

(b) Length of the sea-borne expedition. The Channel ports will not be available to the Germans for a considerable period subsequent to their effective occupation of Northern France and Belgium (provided that our blocking and demolition operations have been successful). 18. We consider that the Germans, having in view their vital need for a certain and quick success, are unlikely to begin an invasion of this country until the fullest possible air support is available. They are likely therefore to defer such an invasion until the limitations set out in Paragraph 17(a) above have disappeared.
