PROBABLE JAPANESE OBJECTIVES. 6. The immediate object of an attack on the Dutch East Indies by Japan would be to obtain control of the oil-fields. The Dutch centre of resistance is in JAVA, where the military headquarters are situated. JAVA is the least rich in oil and is, therefore, the least likely to be attacked in the initial stages. 7. The most probable points of attack are as follows:(a) DUTCH BORNEO in the neighbourhood of BALIKPAPAN (S.E.) and TARAKAN (N.E.) to obtain immediate control of the oil-fields.
