Northern Scandinavia. Possible German Moves In: Report

1 Jan 1940

ANNEX. Military. 1. Germany is continuing to do her utmost to maintain her hold upon Narvik. She is also attempting to strengthen the present position by sending supplies and personnel by air, and by pushing northwards from Trondheim. The country is difficult for an advance by land, but it might be possible to use A.F.Vs and motorised troops as far as Elsfjord, whilst ski and parachute troops might be used for the further advance on Narvik. Reinforcement by air presents many difficulties but the numerous reports of the movement of transport aircraft in the Narvik area indicate that supplies at least are being dropped and perhaps some troops landed.
