MR. G.S. BAILEY said that his Department was concerned only with German external assets in this country, and were not concerned with the economic problem of German cartels. He confirmed the excellent results arising from co-operation between trained investigators and trained Intelligence Officers, and he would welcome the continuance of a body on the lines of the Special Research Section. His Department would, however, not be in a position to provide any personnel for such a body. MR. MATHEWS agreed that very useful information for his purposes would undoubtedly result from the continuance of the Special Research Section; two cases were already under investigation as a result of information obtained hitherto, although it was unlikely that prosecutions would result, since they would entail the disclosure of information which should not be made public.
