The Joint Intelligence Committee, Middle East, had asked for advice from the Sub-Committee on the future organisation for political intelligence, and for information regarding the future of the Middle East Office. Continuing, SIR THOMAS ELMHIRST suggested that a suitable organisation would be to form an inter-service panel on the lines of the Joint Intelligence Staff, incorporating Foreign Office representation, who would collate political intelligence from all Middle East countries. No such official wholetime body existed, and PICME was borne on the staffs of Commanders-in-Chief.
