If a Power hostile to this country gained control of the fields, even assuming that the installations were not destroyed, they might be prevented from exporting the oil by sea and only as a very long term project could it be carried by pipeline across Persia. The economic stability of Persia as a whole would, therefore, be threatened should the oil-fields of Abadan not remain under British control.
