Sir Harold Hartley, continuing, said that in view of the importance of this subject, his Committee felt strongly that a document should be published setting out such facts as could be released. There was considerable rumour and speculation on this subject but no accurate statement had so far been made in this country. Much information had, however, been released in America, including an evaluation of the effects of bombing on Axis oil targets: information in this statement had been accurate although rather out of perspective.
