MR. CRESWELL undertook to represent the views of the Sub-Committee to the Joint Intelligence Staff in the preparation of their report. SIR DOUGLAS HARRIS referred to a suggestion that the preliminary Report by the Joint Intelligence Staff had painted too pessimistic a picture of the reaction of the Arab States. He disagreed with this suggestion, and said that in his opinion, the situation was extremely grave. He then informed the Committee of the discussion on this matter which had taken place at the recent meeting of Sir Norman Brook's official committee and he informed the Sub-Committee of his personal opinions on the possible courses of action that could be taken by His Majesty's Government.
