MR. LAWRENCE agreed with the suggestion that the second of the two officers might with advantage be a civilian provided by the Economic Advisory Branch. THE SUB COMMITTEE:(i) Agreed that an establishment was needed of two Document Liaison Officers, one, a Service officer of the standing of Grade I Staff Officer as head, and the other, a civilian officer with an equivalent or lower grading. (ii) Invited the Director of Military Intelligence to take up with the appropriate authorities in the War Office: (a) Approval of the establishment for a First Grade Staff Officer on the strength of or attached to Intelligence Section (Operations); (b) If approved, the appointment of a suitable officer to fill this post; (iii) Invited the Foreign Office to make a civilian officer available, if possible from their Economic Advisory Branch, of a grading equivalent to or lower than First Grade Staff Officer to be attached to the Intelligence Section (Operations).
