2. PROVISION OF INTELLIGENCE - I.S.(0). THE SUB-COMMITTEE had before them a minute by the Secretary (JIC/1898/43 dated 27th November, 1943) covering a letter from Major-General Whitefoord, COSSAC/10BX/INT, pointing out that 21 Army Group and First U.S. Army group will now require information regarding Germany and Denmark, apart from order of battle information, in connexion with planning for RANKIN, Case 'C', and proposing that this should be obtained from Intelligence Section (Operations). COLONEL SANDERSON said that I.S.(0) should undertake this. He pointed out, however, that C.O.S.S.A.C. also wanted them to provide information about part of Eastern France. He suggested that as C.O.S.S.A.C. already covered the greater part of France, except the Southern area which was covered by I.S.(0), better cohesion would be ensured if C.O.S.S.A.C. were to undertake this remaining area. After discussion, THE SUB-COMMITTEE:- (i) Agreed that C.O.S.S.A.C. and the two Army Groups should make use of I.S.(0) to collect any information required by the two Army Groups for Germany and Denmark, other than information regarding the German Army and the G.A.F., on which they should continue to deal direct with the Intelligence Sections in the Ministries concerned: (ii) Invited C.O.S.S.A.C. to take over the x Letter from year whitefoord remaining part of France not already (COSSAC/10BX/INT of 2.12.43) covered by them and I.S.(0); and * JIC/1948/43 of 4.12.43 invited them in doing so, to pass refer. any requests for information to the fited in S.F. 3. Ministry of Economic Warfare or other Ministries through the Section of their staff that already dealt with this country. x 3. ECONOMIC OBJECTIVES FOR BOMBING ATTACK. THE SUB-COMMITTEE had before them a Minute by the Secretary (JIC/1880/43 dated 25th November, 1943) covering Minute of the same date from Colonel Vickers, stating that the Soviet Military Mission had recently shown considerable interest in economic objectives for bombing attack, and proposing that it would be a good plan to give the Russians our quarterly estimates of the progress of the bombing offensive, or a specially prepared version, and also to communicate its contents to the Mission here. THE SUB-COMMITTEE:- Agreed to the above proposals. 4. "CROSSBOW". A. THE SUB-COMMITTEE had before them Minutes by the Secretary (JIC/1877/43 dated 25th November, 1943, and JIC/1889/43 dated 26th November, 1943) covering Minutes M/141/43 and M/143/43 by the Director of Military Intelligence, stating that GHQ. Home Forces and 21 Army Group required to be kept informed of the situation -2-
