2. I.S.I.S. REPORTS ON NORWAY. THE SUB-COMMITTEE had before them a Minute by the Secretary (JIC/887/43 dated 26th June, 1943) covering a Memorandum by the Superintendent, I.S.T.D. THE SUB-COMMITTEE:- Took note that I.S.T.D. are concentrating on Volume 6 of their Reports on Norway dealing with the South-West coast of that country. Continuation on this priority would depend on the result of the discussions between the Topographical Sub-Committee and the Directors of Plans, and on the settlement of the question of I.S.T.D. Staff. 3. POSSIBILITY OF A REFUGEE RESISTANCE FORCE AFTER THE DEFEAT OF GERMANY. THE SUB-COMMITTEE had before them a Minute by the Secretary (JIC/879/43 dated 25th June, 1943) referring to a Memorandum on the above subject by the Director of Naval Intelligence. THE CHAIRMAN pointed out that various other problems also arose in considering the situation after the defeat of Germany. He read a Minute addressed to the Directors of Plans by the Secretary of the Joint Planning Staff, stating that the Directors of Plans would be required to discuss with the Chiefs of Staff a Note by the Chief of the Air Staff on J.P.(43) 178 - Plans in the event of German disintegration. He anticipated that we would receive instructions from the Chiefs of Staff for a further appreciation on this subject. THE SUB-COMMITTEE:- Decided to postpone consideration of this question until their next meeting. 4. FACILITIES FOR COLLECTING INTELLIGENCE IN THE FAR EAST. (Previous Reference: J.I.C. (43) 31st. Meeting. Item 3.). covering latter from Director or Naval Intelligence (P. 572 dated 27th June 1943) and telegram from the War Office to the Commander-in-Chief, India, No. 92264 dated 24nd June. 1943. by the into attached THE CHAIRMAN referred to the above-quoted telegram which conveyed instructions from the chiefs of Staff that for the time being India must rely on certain aircraft for S.O.E. and S.I.S. purposes as and when these aircraft became available. He stated that this telegram should not be looked upon as final, because the Chiefs of Staff had not yet received the report resulting from the conversations with D.M.I., India. -2-
