REPORT BY SQUADRON LEADER ION THE CHAIRMAN referred to a minute No. ISTD/3950/43 dated the 5th January, 1943, by the Superintendent of the Inter-Service Topographical Sub-Committee, covering a report by Squadron Leader Ion on his visit to Algiers, which has been circulated to the members of the Sub-Committee. He suggested that the matters raised in this report should be dealt with by the Topographical Sub-Committee. THE SUB-COMMITTEE - Approved the suggestion at "X" above. 4. PASSAGES RELATING TO POLITICAL QUESTIONS IN SERVICE INTELLIGENCE SUMMARIES (Previous Reference: J.I.C.(43) 2nd Meeting (0). Item 2) THE CHAIRMAN reminded the Sub-Committee that he had under- taken to investigate the possibility of preparing a single contribution on political questions for inclusion in intelligence summaries of the War Office and the Air Ministry. The Political Intelligence Department in the Foreign Office had agreed to produce material in the form of an annex suitable for inclusion in Service intelligence summaries. This annex would be made available to all Service Departments to use as they thought best. There was no objection to the Admiralty continuing their present procedure, by which passages relating to political questions were vetted by the Foreign Office before publication. As regards the day of the week on which Service Departments would like to receive this annex, he would be grateful if they would inform him of their requirements. Major General Davidson and Air Commodore Pendred undertook to inform the Chairman of the day on which their Departments would like to receive this annex.
