this was of little consequence compared to the results which might be anticipated if we adhered to it. (v) It was suggested that although failure on our part to return wounded prisoners of Category B to a neutral country would contravene the Convention, it was of no consequence. The Germans only honoured conventions when it suited them to do so. We should approach this matter from the practical aspect also. (vi) Although the numbers of wounded German prisoners of war at present involved were very small (1 German naval prisoner and some 50 German airmen), these numbers might increase substantially later.
