A volume of meeting minutes and reports from the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain’s intelligence organisations accordingly. The JIC members discussed a vast range of international and domestic issues in their meetings. This file summarises the findings of a committee formed to investigate the use of air power in the Spanish Civil War and the Sino-Japanese War. The documents include reports on the use of aircraft to attack various targets including factories, communications networks, oil storage sites, ports, dockyards, and ships; bombing and strafing techniques and the effects produced by various methods; the involvement of German and Italian air force personnel in the Spanish Civil War; and anti-aircraft defence, air raid precautions, and the use of camouflage.
