Report No. 5. Effects of Air Attack on Oil Fuel Storage. (Continuation of Report No. 2)

1 Jun 1937

Raid on Malaga. 7: In the attack on Malaga on 14th October, 1936, a naval report states:"During an air raid on Malaga on this date, a seaplane made a rather flat dive on the tanks, commencing the attack from a position about 2,000 yards out to sea and at about 500 feet height, and completing it about 150 yards short of the tank at a height of about 150 feet, when the tank burst into flames. The seaplane opened fire at about 1,000 yards range, her machine-gun being heard distinctly." From the above it may be assumed that the tanks were a definite and probably the main objective; but it is not clear whether they were attacked as part of a general raid on the town, or the raid used merely to cover the operation against the oil tanks, since the reports do not mention the total number of aircraft engaged or indeed whether any except the seaplane participated in the attack.
