Far East Appreciation, Comments by the Deputy Director of Military Operations and Intelligence, War Office

1 Jun 1936

100 (a) Portugal would assist Great Britain to the best of her ability. (b) Though such assistance need not necessarily be naval or military she would probably be prepared to allow us the use of her possessions for such purposes. (c) The seizure by any foreign power of Macao or any other of her possessions would produce a demand for assistance from us equally as in the case of the Atlantic islands. Para. 7(b) of Note Improvisation of landing grounds on China Coast. 4. According to the information in the possession of the War Office the topography of much of this coast of China is such that there should be little difficulty in quickly improvising additional landing grounds.
