ANNEX I. NO DISTRIBUTION. Cypher telegram to Sir H. Kennard (Warsaw). Foreign Office, 26th August, 1939. 4.00 p.m. No. 303. SECRET. IMMEDIATE. As you are aware, His Majesty's Government had intended to send a service mission to Poland in the event of war. In the present situation they consider it desirable that this mission should leave immediately, and it is leaving London to-day for Alexandria, whence it will proceed to Warsaw under arrangements to be made locally. The mission (as Marshal Smigly Rydz has already been informed) will be headed by General Carton de Wiart.
