Authority for Secret Service expenditure: certificate from Chancellor of the Exchequer

A small file of correspondence relating to the purchase of foreign currency through the Special Operations Executive (SOE) for the use of the armed forces in preparation for Operation Overlord in June 1944. The file concerns the need for a Ministerial Certificate signed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to cover sums outstanding from the acquisition of foreign currency by SOE as such acquisitions, having been made on behalf of the armed forces, were not strictly SOE business and could not be covered by a certificate from Lord Selborne, the head of SOE.
