A file of reports, memoranda and correspondence concerning the organisation and responsibilities of the British intelligence services, as well as their future role after the Second World War. Subjects of discussion include the roles and responsibilities of the Security Service (MI5), the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) and Special Branch; the tasks required to be carried out by the intelligence services, including intelligence gathering, counter-espionage, sabotage, security, propaganda and communications security and interception; rivalry between the services; the disbandment of various war-time organisations, including the Ministry of Economic Warfare and the Special Operations Executive (SOE); and accounts of previous enquiries into intelligence organisation in the 1920s.
