A volume of secretariat minutes of the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. Secretariat minutes were used to pass documents such as JIC sub-committee and working party reports and intelligence assessments to JIC members. Subjects covered in this file include Soviet attempts to entice German scientists to the Soviet zone of occupied Germany; a proposed exchange of military missions between the British and Soviet zones; British intelligence organisation in the Middle East and East Asia; the provision of press material from the U.S.S.R. and its satellites; the publication of histories of the Second World War; the strength of the Japanese communist party; the security of signals transmissions within the United Kingdom; and the release of the locations where V-weapons fell in the United Kingdom.
