Collection of Topographical Intelligence in Occupied Areas

10 Sep 1943

2 (D) The method of operation of this Field Unit should be analogous to that of a G.H.Q. Reconnaissance Regiment in the sense that it should be enabled directly to obtain assistance and information from all commands and units subordinate to A.F.H.Q. in the areas concerned. Thus in investigating the facilities of a port, the N.O.I.C. or Captain of the Base could supply much necessary information, and the facilities for obtaining it. Similarly the Staff Officer (Navigation) or other appropriately qualified Officer on the staff of the local Naval Command could assist in the survey of particular beaches and landings.
