PROFESSOR R.V. JONES suggested that the members of the Polit-Bureau were possibly more influenced by a determination to keep their jobs than by devotion to the Communist cause. ADMIRAL BUZZARD suggested that recent purges in the Satellite countries might indicate that these countries were not as yet considered wholly reliable, and that everything was not well inside the structure of the Soviet Bloc. MR. REILLY then reviewed events round the Soviet perimeter. It was clear from the ruthless attacks on aircraft "trespassing" over Soviet territory in the Baltic, round the Berlin corridor, and in the Far East, that the Soviet was increasingly resentful of such "intrusion".
