Min. 3 of 28th August, 1952) THE COMMITTEE had before them:(a) A report+ by the Joint Intelligence Committee, Middle East, reviewing our intelligence on the Egyptian Army and Air Force coup of 23rd July. (b) A report by the J.I.C.(M.E.)ø and a minute by the Secretary covering a memorandum by the Foreign Office, on the factors likely to effect developments in Egypt. MR. REILLY said that in his view, the J.I.G. (M.E.) had conducted a valuable "inquest" into the circumstances by which we received no warning of the coup in Egypt and he did not consider that any purpose would be served by further enquiry.
