TOP SECRET 1. THE FORMATION OF A POLISH ARMY OF LIBERATION THE COMMITTEE had before them a minuteθ by the Secretary, covering a report by M.I.6 of a record of a conversation between General Anders and a retired senior British officer. General Anders had envisaged the formation of a nucleus of a Polish Army from those Poles new resident in the U.K., Western Europe and America. MR. REILLY said the view of the Foreign Office was that the formation of a Polish army during peacetime was, for many reasons, not feasible: on the other hand the proposal was worth consideration in the event of war, and might justifiably be brought to the notice of the Chiefs of Staff.
