CONFIDENTIAL 2. ECONOMIES IN SERVICE REPRESENTATION AT H.M. MISSION ABROAD. THE COMMITTEE had before them a minute by the Secretary≠ covering a minute by the Chairman, with enclosures, reporting that the Treasury had asked that a reduction of at least 15 per cent should be made in the cost of Service Attaches abroad in the next financial year. After a full discussion, the Committee expressed the following views. They were very much concerned to hear of the decision of the Treasury. It would be impossible to submit firm recommendations until the question had been considered at the highest level in Service Departments.
