4. SITUATION IN EGYPT. SECRET (Previous Reference: J.I.C.(50) 127th Meeting, Minute 2). THE COMMITTEE had before them a telegram+ from the Joint Intelligence Committee, Middle East, concerning the situation in Egypt with regard to possible action against British nationals. MR. REILLY said that although the Egyptian Government would endeavour generally to maintain law and order, they might turn a blind eye to limited anti-British demonstrations with the resultant risk of the situation getting out of hand.
