3. PROFESSOR PONTECORVO. CONFIDENTIAL THE COMMITTEE had a brief discussion on the case of Professor Pontecorvo. THE COMMITTEE:Recorded their gave concern at the incident and invited the Security Service to consider, in the light of their discussion, what action could usefully be taken to prevent such incidents occurring in future, and to report at their meeting (Directors) the following week. 4. SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE SECRET BRANCH GERMANY. MR. YOUNG said that the question of giving long term contracts to members of the Scientific and Technical Intelligence Branch (S.T.I.B.) in Germany was being held up pending a decision as to whether members of the Scientific Research Branch in Germany should also qualify for leng term contracts.
