TOP SECRET attend the Chiefs of Staff meeting in question. Arrangements were accordingly made during the meeting for the Joint Intelligence Staff to prepare the required statement, and the Deputy Director of Military Intelligence and Mr. Brain were invited to attend the Chiefs of Staff meeting on the Committee's behalf. In discussion of the draft report examining the present position in Korea, it was generally agreed that as the Chiefs of Staff had already been informed of the information contained in the report, and as a number of points mentioned there in had been overtaken by events, no useful purpose would be served by continuing the preparation of the report. MR. BRAIN referred to two telegrams+ from His Majesty's Embassies at Washington and Moscow giving views on the situation in Korea, and said that he understood that the Soviet newspaper Pravda, in its issue that morning, had expressed the view that the United States action with regard to Korea was aggression against the free democracies and peoples of Korea and China. THE COMMITTEE:- (1) Took note of the memorandum≠ prepared by the Joint Intelligence Staff and submitted to the Minister of Defence. (2) Took note, with approval, of the arrangements made for the preparation of a daily statement on the military situation in Korea for the guidance of the Prime Minister in making his daily reports in the House of Commons. (3) Invited Departments to make arrangements, as appropriate, for forwarding to their representatives in the Far East such information concerning the situation in Korea as would not otherwise be in the possession of the Commanders-in-Chief, Far East. (4) Instructed the Joint Intelligence Staff to prepare, for submission to the Chiefs of Staff at their meeting that afternoon, a statement regarding any indications of a Soviet build-up or of Soviet increased pressure in any parts of the world other than the Far East, and invited the Deputy Director of Military Intelligence, War Office, to attend the Chiefs of Staff meeting on the Committee's behalf.
