Minutes of the Sixty Fifth Meeting of the Committee (Deputy Directors (O and S)), Held in Conference Room "G", at the Ministry of Defence, S.W.I, on Friday, 23rd June, 1950, at 10.45 a.m.

SECRET Finland and Yugoslavia, the S.B.A.C. would submit a list of names of individuals they wished to invite in addition to the Air Attaches of these countries. This list would be vetted by the Air Ministry before invitations were sent out. There was presumably little risk of any of the Yugoslav representatives being anti-Tito as the Tito Government would be unlikely to put such names forward. In regard to China, the Nationalist Chinese Air Attache had recently returned home and there was at present no Chinese Air Attache in London. No invitations would, therefore, be issued to Chinese representatives. Continuing, Group Captain Brodie recalled that the Air Ministry had been invited to look into the question of whether it would be possible to prevent close-up photographs being taken at the Exhibition of aircraft recently released from the secret list. They had ascertained that this was not possible; .the only way to prevent an aircraft from being photographed was not to show it at the Exhibition. In any case, photographs would have already been issued by the trade of all aeroplanes shown at the Exhibition. Such aircraft were roped off and photographs could only be taken from the outside. THE COMMITTEE:- (1) Agreed that, for reciprocity reasons and subject to the agreement of the S.B.A.C., invitations to the Farnborough Exhibition should be issued to the Soviet Union and Satellite countries, Finland and Yugoslavia, on the lines suggested by the Air Ministry. (2) Took note that it was not possible to place any restrictions on the photographing of aircraft shown at the Farnborough Exhibition. 3. MILITARY AND AIR ATTACHE IN CHINA. CONFIDENTIAL (Previous Reference: J.I.C.(50) 54th Meeting, Minute 4). MR. CAREY-FOSTER referred to the Committee's previous discussion on the withdrawal of the Military and Air Attache, Air Vice Marshal Warburton from China, and said that the Foreign Office had no objection to his withdrawal. In order that they might keep His Majesty's Charge d'Affaires informed of the position, they would like the Air Ministry and War Office to notify them of any decisions arrived at in regard to filling the post of joint Military and Air Attache in China. They also wished all publicity to be avoided on the subject of Air Vice Marshal Warburton's withdrawal as they did not want rumours started that His Majesty's Government had abandoned hope of establishing diplomatic relations with the Chinese Government. THE COMMITTEE:- Took note of the statement by the Foreign Office. Ministry of Defence, S.W.1. 23rd June, 1950. -2-
