3. RUSSIAN PREPAREDNESS FOR WAR. (Previous reference:J.I.C.(48) 76th Meeting (0) Minute 3). THE COMMITTEE had their weekly discussion on evidence of Russian preparedness for war and the possibilities of an offensive in the near future. MR. HAYTER siad that, at the request of the Foreign Secretary, he was reporting to him weekly the trends of Russian preparedness as revealed at the weekly meeting of the Committee, and he suggested that he (Mr. Hayter) should inform the Chiefs of Staff at their next meeting of the current conclusions in this respect and ask them if they required a weekly situation report on the lines of the one he was giving to the Foreign Secretary.
